Clinic to offer free tests for hearing and speech-language issues, reading concerns

(DALLAS, August 6, 2015)Dallas Reading and Language Services, a speech therapy and reading services clinic in Dallas, will host an exhibit at the Dallas Mayor’s 19th Annual Back-to-School Expo to meet with parents of children who may need speech therapy or reading services, to answer parents’ questions and concerns, and to register children for free screenings to be held later at the clinic.

The free hearing and speech-language screenings will be conducted by professional, certified speech-language pathologists. Standardized reading tests will also be available for free to parents who opt for the full speech-language testing services offered by the clinic, which may be covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, or by private pay.

The Mayor’s Back-to-School Expo is scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Automobile and Centennial Buildings in Fair Park in Dallas.

“We have a very good success rate with using tests to help children obtain reading services or special education at their schools,” says Rachel Betzen, M.A., CCC/SLP, a speech therapist and the founder of Dallas Reading and Language Services. “That’s because in addition to the testing, our clinic also offers free consultations on all the test results, including consultation with a child’s teachers if needed. Our team of professional therapists are prepared to help parents advocate for their child if that’s what’s needed.”

Dallas Reading and Language Services has been a leading provider of speech-language therapy and reading programs in North Texas since their founding by Rachel Betzen in 2005. They are unique among North Texas speech therapy and language service providers for their focus on working with lower socio-economic families, as well as middle class and higher income families.

Today, Dallas Reading and Language Services offers services on a sliding scale basis for private pay families. They also accept Medicaid and some insurance plans.
