Children’s Book Recommendations

Books for Kindness, Sharing and Perspective-Taking

Books give children a comfortable way to explore emotions, kindness, sharing and how their choices affect others. Our speech-language therapists recommend these stories as conversation starters at home. While reading, pause to ask what each character is thinking, predict what may happen next and connect the story to experiences your child recognizes.

Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller

This thoughtful picture book helps children consider what kindness looks like in everyday situations. Parents can use the story to practice identifying feelings, explaining character motivations and generating kind responses.

Me First by Helen Lester

This humorous story follows Pinkerton, a pig who always wants to be first, as he learns about patience, sharing and considering other people. It creates natural opportunities to discuss consequences, perspective-taking and flexible behavior.
